wander the grove...

Shedding

Updated: Jan 15

wild tender — a chantilly bonita anthology
A season of recognition. A soft clearing. A return to what fits — where growth quiets, and discernment takes root.

There comes a point when growth stops announcing itself.

Not because it’s finished —

but because it no longer needs a witness.

This wasn’t a season of becoming.

It was a season of recognition.

Layered leaves in deep green and burgundy tones symbolize shedding, renewal, and quiet growth.

Change moved through quietly then.

Old growth cleared.

Space made with care.

What no longer served was returned to the ground,

And what was new was left undisturbed.

Nothing dramatic.

Nothing wasted.

Loss arrived close together, layered rather than singular.

Nothing stopped outright, but everything slowed enough to notice what had been asking for attention for some time.

That was when the dreams began.

Snakes, again and again.

Not threatening.

Not symbolic.

Just present.

I didn’t search for meaning.

What mattered was the consistency — the way something kept appearing without asking to be explained.

The body notices patterns long before the mind names them.

That kind of awareness doesn’t arrive suddenly.

It’s built over time — through learning how to stay present,

How to listen without fixing,

How to remain steady when discomfort asks to be acknowledged.

When the world slowed, that listening deepened.

In the quiet, a steadier voice surfaced —

not new, not polished, but reliable.

It didn’t ask for identity or declaration.

It asked for alignment.

So I followed what felt grounded.

Not certainty — steadiness.

Not clarity — coherence.

I moved toward what could be held in the body.

Toward work that required attention rather than performance.

Toward care that didn’t demand transformation, only presence.

This wasn’t the first shedding.

That had happened earlier.

This was choosing what deserved tending afterward.

Snakes don’t shed to reinvent themselves.

They shed because what once fit no longer does.

Growth requires space —

but discernment decides what remains once the skin is gone.

Thistle growing in a rugged landscape, representing resilience, boundaries, and growth through adversity.

Over time, that discernment sharpened.

Certain relationships no longer aligned.

Distance became information rather than failure.

When loss touched family again,

I was confronted not with responsibility, but with limitation —

the reality of having no authority, no access, and no protection

inside systems that should have offered care.

I was met with obstruction where help was expected,

confusion where clarity was needed,

and silence where dignity should have lived.

I couldn’t fix what was unfolding.

But I could see it clearly.

And that clarity changed how I understood power, truth,

and my own boundaries.

Eventually, that clarity reached daily life.

Pace slowed.

Priorities narrowed .

Stability mattered more than momentum.

Less proving.

More care.

Not because growth stopped —

but because it rooted.

When space was finally made,

what had been buried resurfaced —

not to overwhelm, but to be integrated.

This is what shedding looks like once it matures.

Not urgency.

Not spectacle.

But choosing enough — and standing by it.

The snake doesn't explain itself.

It doesn't need to.

It sheds when it's time,

and keeps moving.

And I know now what is mine to tend —

and what can be left behind.
