The Birth

wild tender — a chantilly bonita anthology
A quiet reckoning. A remembering. An origin story shaped by survival, softness, the courage to begin again —
where the story turns inward, and something new begins.

“The Birth” shares Lacey Whittle’s journey of resilience, nervous system restoration, and becoming—where beauty slows down and life begins to soften.
An AI rendering of the softness I’m still learning to offer my younger self.

There are moments in a woman’s life when something cracks open — not in a way that destroys, but in a way that reveals. Moments when the old skin doesn’t fit anymore. When the body, the spirit, and the breath all whisper the same truth:

It’s time.

This is the story of that moment for me —the birth that had nothing to do with labor…and everything to do with becoming.

Before the Becoming

My beginning was not soft.

Abandonment came early. Trauma came disguised as love. Survival became the air I breathed. By fourteen, the state of New Mexico became my guardian, and the desert became the first place that ever held me gently.

Under that wide sky, I learned something sacred: stillness can save you.

My foster parents gave me what my nervous system had never known — safety, steadiness, and love without condition. They stood beside me as I used my voice to put an abuser behind bars. That chapter, though painful, planted something in me:

A belief that I could rise.

At sixteen, life carried me to the Louisiana bayou. Humid, rhythmic, steady. It’s where I met the man who would become my husband, and where motherhood reshaped me. Three babies in six years — three brilliant, fiery boys — each one inviting me deeper into myself.

I had lived many lives before twenty-five.

But the birth hadn’t happened yet.

When Beauty Found Me

Art has always lived in my bones. As a child, I colored my way through chaos. As a teen, makeup became my first form of self-expression. My grandmother sold Avon; naturally, I “borrowed” every sample.

She was the first woman who let me feel beautiful without apology.

Years later, when my boys were old enough for school, I finally said yes to myself. I enrolled in aesthetics.

That was the first time beauty felt like medicine.

Touch, breath, warmth, stillness — they worked on the nervous system in ways I didn’t yet have words for. I fell in love with the ceremony of it. With the way calm could spread through a body like a quiet tide.

Then I met a classmate battling Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Near the end of her journey, when words failed her, touch didn’t. I held her hands and offered the gentlest effleurage. Her body softened. Her pain eased, if only for a moment. That moment — that softening — changed the course of my life.

She passed. I grieved. And I promised her I would carry the light she showed me.

Even then, the birth hadn’t happened yet.

The World Stopped — and So Did I

COVID arrived, and the world exhaled into silence.

My grandmother passed. My grandfather became unreachable. Grief settled into my home, into my body, into my breath. I found refuge in small things — herbal baths, oils, at-home facials, slow mornings before the kids woke up. My nervous system softened for the first time in years.

When the world reopened, I realized something:

I couldn’t fit back into the life I had outgrown.

Beauty wasn’t about appearances. It wasn’t about trends. It wasn’t even about the spa.

It was about presence.

It was about remembering the self beneath everything else.

So I walked away from the career I thought I’d retire from.

And that’s when the birth finally began.

The Birth of Chantilly Bonita

I didn’t start this brand because everything was perfect. I started it because everything changed.

Because stillness taught me what survival never could.Because touch taught me what words never reached. Because grief broke me open enough to let something new grow.

In 2022, after losing my father-in-law and my grandfather only months apart, I returned to school for massage therapy. And there, on a massage table — trading techniques with classmates — my body began telling the stories it had held for decades.

I realized: the body remembers what the heart tries to forget.

And in that truth… I found my calling.

Chantilly Bonita isn’t just a business. It’s a reclamation. A sanctuary for the worn-out and the rising.A place where beauty slows down and becomes ceremony.Where art, ancestry, nervous system care, and authenticity meet.

Where every ritual, every product, every offering says:

🌿 From the Earth, for the Body.

This is the birth of the woman I became. The birth of the brand I’m building. The birth of the healing I now guide others toward —not through perfection, but through presence.
